Aja and Mark come to visit

Aja, Peter's sister, made her first trip to Texas in March.  She came over her birthday and brought along Peter's brother Mark.  It was a lot of fun having them here.

Here's some of the fun we had...
  • We, of course, ate out! (Although I did cook dinner 1 night)
  • One night Aja and I enjoyed the great weather and went for a walk.
  • On Aja's birthday we went to an improv show.  It was a lot of fun!  It was funny though how the actors would throw in regional jokes and poor Aja, Mark, and sometimes us too didn't get it.  For example, the scene for one of the improvs took place at a "stock show".  What is a stock show??  I thought maybe it had something to do with stock cars.  After watching the scene, I learned that it's a place where people go to show and sell their LIVEstock.  Yeah, we aren't completely Texans yet...
  • We went to Babes Chicken House for some good southern style home cookin'.  And celebrate Aja's birthday again.  She was such a good sport when the waitresses had her wear a chicken hat while they serenaded her for her birthday.  Love her spirit!  (See pictures below and notice how Mark is hiding his face at the end!)
  •  Had some "adult" fun but kid style with arcade games at Dave and Busters

  • Aja and I had a fantastic afternoon one day enjoying the sun and the flowers at the Dallas Arboretum.  I couldn't believe how many more flowers were out just a week after Peter and I had gone.  And we stopped for snow cones on the way home.  Here are some pictures plus a short video.  I love how you can hear the birds chirping!

It's so nice to have family come and visit.  It means a lot especially since it's a LONG drive from SLC to Dallas.

Dallas Arboretum

At the beginning of March, Peter and I went to visit a place that had been recommended to us when we first moved here but we hadn't made it there yet - Dallas Arboretum. Every spring they have something called "Dallas Blooms" with thousands (maybe millions - who knows) of spring blooms - tulips, daffodils, etc. We were there a few days before the official start of Dallas Blooms but there were still tons of blooms out. The Arboretum is on the shore of White Rock Lake in Dallas and covers acres of ground. It was beautiful! It was so nice after the gloom of winter to be surrounded by flowers, some blossoming trees, and green grass and enjoy a little sun while looking out over the lake.

At one point I just laid in the grass (it was sooooo soft - - perfect grass, the type you just have to take your shoes off and walk around on) and rested. It was rejuvenating for me after how crappy I had been feeling all winter to be reminded that spring was coming and hopefully with that, I would feel better too!

I loved the Arboretum and only wish it wasn't 35 minutes away because I would go all the time!
