Goodbye to Nana Part I

September 4th we headed to Utah to help with all the funeral and other arrangements for Peter's Grandma ("Nana" to her great grandchildren and "Grams" to Peter) and for the service.  I am really grateful to American Airlines for offering compassion fares that we have used when we went to Utah for my mom and now Peter's Grandma's funeral.  They aren't cheap, by any means...but they are less than the full-price last-minute fares.

Max enjoying the plane ride.  Again I am grateful that I haven't had to fly alone with Max.  He does a good job he just has a really short attention span.  So it's nice to be able to tag team him.

What's down there?

After we landed and got our rental car we headed out to West Valley City to the apartment complex where Grandma plus a lot of other family members lived.  Max and I hung outside and enjoyed the soft Utah grass (and tried not to let mosquitoes eat us) while Peter met with different family members and started to plan.  We then drove north and went to Chili's for a late night dinner with Alex and his family.  Max fell asleep in the car but didn't sleep for long once we got in the restaurant.

Maxwell was so tired, but isn't this sweet???

We stayed with my Aunt Tammy and her family.  We love spending time with them, they have a beautiful house, and their kids loves Max.  While Peter was focused on dealing with his Grandma's affairs, we hung out at Tammy's a lot.  It just worked better because Maxwell could still be on his regular schedule for eating, sleeping, etc.  Plus, Peter was going to meetings at the mortuary or working on cleaning out Grandma's apartment.  Neither place was conducive to having Max there for long periods of time.  It was a blessing to be able to hang out at Tammy's and Max was happier.  (I feel bad when we drag him around all day and he doesn't get the naps he needs, etc.)

Max enjoying the beautiful Utah weather while we picked raspberries in Tammy's garden.

Some of the fruits of our picking labors - raspberries, cherry and big tomatoes, green peppers.
The garden was AMAZING.  I was in heaven.  I love love love love love food fresh from the garden.  I can't wait to grow my own garden in my backyard.

Max had no fear with Snowball.  He wanted to share her cage.

He also wanted to play with her toys...

...which was okay until he put it in his mouth.  NOOOOOO!!!!

Our other hangout spot was at Tawny and Alex's.  Max had fun playing with his cousins.  Lola was really cute with him.

Max and I went to visit Grandma and Grandpa Blank one day while Peter was busy.  I was glad we were able to see them for a short bit.  I am so lucky to have great grandparents.  I love and respect them so much.
Max sat in the highchair and enjoyed some snacks.  It was weird looking at the highchair and knowing it was MY KID in the highchair.  That highchair has been around forever.  There are probably pictures of ME in there.  I have seen so many cousins and second cousins sit in that highchair.  Having Max in there was one of those "hold cow, I'm an adult" moments.  :)

Peter was busy from the moment he woke up until late at night working on things that needed to be done.  It was just like it was when we were taking care of stuff for my mom.  Sometimes it would be nice to be the slackers and just do a little bit and watch others work so hard.  But ultimately given the choice, I would rather be capable and skilled and be the ones getting things done.
Getting the apartment cleaned out.
