wrappin' up February and foot update

Cute pics from the end of the month.

Love that dimple!
My aircast/boot hanging out by the rest of the shoes.  Symbolically and literally no longer being worn.  I mentioned in a previous post that I had gotten permission to stop wearing the boot when I went out of the house.  Well, here's why.  When I went to my Dr's visit, he did X-rays and said that my foot wasn't healing well.  It was still broken and far behind in the healing process.  So he said to stop wearing the boot because it clearly wasn't helping my foot heal and was having the natural negatives effects such as atrophy of my muscles.  He said that I could wear either tennis shoes or regular boots because they were supportive shoes.  So, I stopped wearing the boot and started wearing tennis shoes.  Even to work!  (And believe me, tennis shoes don't quit match my work wardrobe.  But hey, I pushed myself around the halls at work on a scooter so I can handle looking like a foot in slacks/skirts and then tennis shoes.)

My orthopedic specialist Dr. Douthit isn't sure why I am not healing, he believes it may be because I am nursing and Max.  As he put it, Max is sucking out more than his fair share of calcium.  But just to be sure that everything was okay, he had me go get my Calcium and Vitamin D levels checked as well as a bone density scan.  I was nervous that those tests might reveal something else really wrong.  They didn't - everything came back normal so we don't really know why I'm not healing.

So now he's put me on a machine that I use at home called a bone growth stimulator machine.  It's basically some sort of ultrasound machine that stimulates the bone to grow.  It's a very expensive machine and luckily one of my co-workers had one from when he broke his foot exactly in the same place I did and he is generously lending it to me.  Hopefully doing the machine once a day for 2 months will cause this broken bone to heal!  If not, it means surgery - yikes.
