Mid-July Photodump

July 10 - 19, 2013
So, Max woke up super sick on the 10th (I KNEW he was getting sick!!!) and unfortunately I needed to go out of town for work to Denver.  It was awful to be away from him when he didn't feel good!!

This was sick Max one morning I was gone.  He was watching the iPad while his dad worked out.  He was so unhappy, he was playing with his nipples to self soothe.  We have noticed that Max has a fascination with skin bumps.  Peter has a little pink bump on his arm (I'm not sure what it really is, it's not a mole) that Max calls a "bubble".  He likes to rub it when we are cuddling as a family at night.  He has tried to find a "bubble" on my arm but the closest I've got is a mole.  I think that fascination is also why he likes to play with his nipples.  We've noticed that when he gets tired or unhappy he will self soothe as well.

I grabbed a couple pictures during our Kindermusik class since we are going to be going to a different location.  Our favorite teacher, Miss Kristen, is going to be moving across the country.   :( We loved her so much that we drove across town just to go to her class.  Now that she is leaving we are going to go to the location closer to us.

Playing with the parachute

We had a fun treat and got to spend a few hours and lunch with some of the Carlsons.  It was a great visit!

Peter and I did some more furniture shopping for our family room.  This is the rug we decided on.  It's a very cool rug - the picture doesn't do it justice.

Max enjoyed the popcorn.

The next day was a girl's shopping day as Tida and I hit SO many stores trying to finish up accessories for the room.

I love the vases we found

Also love the painting.  Thanks Tida for helping me out!

Cousins playing with blocks

I finally got Brittany to go to the neighborhood ladies' bunco night.  She had a good time.  :)

We get pretty crazy at bunco.  This particular night, the ladies' took their complaining about a particular neighbor's sunflower weeds and turned it into action.  After the game was over, a group went and did some weeding by the light of an i-phone.  It was pretty funny.

Big update on Max:

  • He's good at taking turns but not sharing
  • He yells "trouble" when he jumps on the couch or the bed.  He learned this because one day when he was jumping I was saying "timber" and then it got changed into "trouble" and stuck.
  • You hear things like "my ball" a lot lately
  • He knows so many words - like he said "counter" (counter top) this morning, I had no idea he knew that word!
  • He calls sunglasses "eyeglasses"
  • Maxwell always takes his shoes off when we are in the car.
  • His "N" finally sounds different than "M"
  • He is all about soccer and soccer games
  • Lately he wakes up at 7 am
  • I love, love, love his cheek kisses.  I don't quite know how to describe them, but they are fast and repeated...almost like fishy kisses without sucking in the sides of your cheek.  I tease him and say "don't give me cheek kisses....no...please don't..." and of course he does :)
  • He is enjoying reading the library books we got
  • As noted above, he has noticed his nipples
  • He has started picking his nose...I blame those annoying boogers he had when he was sick! In the car, after picking his nose he held his hand up and said "booger".  I quickly gave him a tissue.
  • He hasn't had much appetite lately
  • He is getting better at colors
  • He is still hitting
  • We went out one night this week and I held him while we watched the lightening and listened to the thunder.  It was super sweet.  He sat there with his cheek pressed against mine.  I love tender moments like that and am so grateful that my boy is so sweet.
  • He is so good at going to sleep and now will just hang out sometimes after waking up rather than getting up and asking for us or crying

Sick (?!) Day

I suspected Max was getting sick.  He didn't have a lot of appetite, he was sneezing a bunch, and he took a 5 hour nap.  While it was nice, at about 3 hours I started worry about him but of course, never woke him up (I'm not that crazy!).  I was pretty sure at that point he was getting sick even though those aren't serious symptoms.  So, on July 9, I took a sick day from work to take Max in to his doctor.  I'm not the type to run to the doctor at the first sign of a runny nose, but this was different.  I was worried that he might have an ear infection from being in the pool at swimming lessons.

Day before - happy kid

Sad face in the morning

Since he was acting okay, I took him to makeup a Kindermusik class we had missed prior to going to the doctor.

We LOVE our teacher, Miss Kristen.  She is so good and loves Max.  He really enjoys the stamps she gives at the end of class.  He often will sweetly ask for more stamps because one just isn't enough.

Getting in a quick snack before our appt.

Time to reapply

I know - he doesn't look very sick...but I just really felt like things weren't normal.

His pediatrician checked him out and said he looked good.  She didn't find anything wrong with him.  He was pretty good and let her get through half of the exam before he started freaking out.  He's getting bigger - he weighed in at 26 lbs 11 1/2 oz.

Sweet boy fell asleep on the way home.

He didn't wake up so sweetly

He wouldn't even look at me, he was so mad

...ahhhh...fiddle sticks make everything better
We read some books together

We did puzzles

Then we went to the library with Brittany and her boys.  This was the first time I've been to our city library.  It was quite nice!
We read books and then played with the puppets.

Video - Max and Landen playing together with the puppets.  It's good to have a buddy!

After the library we went to the "Snow Cone Lady" and got snow cones.  I am such a cool mom (Not) - I played it as safe as you can get with a snow cones.  Max got a sugar free, clear colored snow cone.  Not ready to give him the full-sugar, brightly-colored-disaster-waiting-to-happen when we have to get back in the car to get home.

All the boys loved the treat

Our "sick" day ended with going out to eat with daddy.  We rarely go out to eat during the week so it was fun but felt like we were really playing hooky.

Max was not such a happy camper during dinner.  That's what we get by breaking the routine when he should have been home getting ready for bed.

So, while it wasn't a real "sick" day because Max wasn't sick...it still was fun to spend a full day with Max during the work week!

- - - - - - - follow up note to finish the story - - - - - -

Momma knows best!  The next day Max woke up FULL ON SICK!  I knew he was getting sick even when the symptoms weren't fully there for others, like his doctor to see yet.  I know my son.  I know when things are off.  It was nice to have that validated.

Happy Birthday, Kimberly!

We were lucky enough to have Kimberly here on her birthday.  It was fun to be able to celebrate her in person!

We had the house decorated when Kimberly woke up that morning.

Unfortunately the birthday celebration ended with up taking Kimberly back to the airport.  I hate saying goodbye.  :(  It was so great having her here.  Thanks for coming to visit Kimberly!!!
