Sick (?!) Day

I suspected Max was getting sick.  He didn't have a lot of appetite, he was sneezing a bunch, and he took a 5 hour nap.  While it was nice, at about 3 hours I started worry about him but of course, never woke him up (I'm not that crazy!).  I was pretty sure at that point he was getting sick even though those aren't serious symptoms.  So, on July 9, I took a sick day from work to take Max in to his doctor.  I'm not the type to run to the doctor at the first sign of a runny nose, but this was different.  I was worried that he might have an ear infection from being in the pool at swimming lessons.

Day before - happy kid

Sad face in the morning

Since he was acting okay, I took him to makeup a Kindermusik class we had missed prior to going to the doctor.

We LOVE our teacher, Miss Kristen.  She is so good and loves Max.  He really enjoys the stamps she gives at the end of class.  He often will sweetly ask for more stamps because one just isn't enough.

Getting in a quick snack before our appt.

Entertained with chapstick

Time to reapply

I know - he doesn't look very sick...but I just really felt like things weren't normal.

His pediatrician checked him out and said he looked good.  She didn't find anything wrong with him.  He was pretty good and let her get through half of the exam before he started freaking out.  He's getting bigger - he weighed in at 26 lbs 11 1/2 oz.

Sweet boy fell asleep on the way home.

He didn't wake up so sweetly

He wouldn't even look at me, he was so mad

...ahhhh...fiddle sticks make everything better
We read some books together

We did puzzles

Then we went to the library with Brittany and her boys.  This was the first time I've been to our city library.  It was quite nice!
We read books and then played with the puppets.

Video - Max and Landen playing together with the puppets.  It's good to have a buddy!

After the library we went to the "Snow Cone Lady" and got snow cones.  I am such a cool mom (Not) - I played it as safe as you can get with a snow cones.  Max got a sugar free, clear colored snow cone.  Not ready to give him the full-sugar, brightly-colored-disaster-waiting-to-happen when we have to get back in the car to get home.

All the boys loved the treat

Our "sick" day ended with going out to eat with daddy.  We rarely go out to eat during the week so it was fun but felt like we were really playing hooky.

Max was not such a happy camper during dinner.  That's what we get by breaking the routine when he should have been home getting ready for bed.

So, while it wasn't a real "sick" day because Max wasn't sick...it still was fun to spend a full day with Max during the work week!

Momma knows best!  The next day Max woke up FULL ON SICK!  I knew he was getting sick even when the symptoms weren't fully there for others, like his doctor to see yet.  I know my son.  I know when things are off.  It was nice to have that validated.

  1. I fully agree, a mother KNOWS when somethings wrong with the kid without being able to name it though. I did expedriened this many, many times. Me too went to the doctor (before the weekende started and not many doctors are nearby) but was send away with the diagnose "all is well". Next day (or during the night-most of the times) had to go to the emergency because by then the kids were obvioustly sick!!!! Hope Max is fine by now again? His ears?
