End of August 2013

Here's some of the things we were up to at the end of August...

Max had his 2 year check up with his pediatrician.  It went well.  Here's his stats:
Weight: 27 lbs 10.5 oz - - - 38th Percentile
Head: 50 cm - - - 83rd Percentile (WOAH! That's a lot of brains)
Height: 33 in - - - 16th Percentile!!  This is a big jump from 18 mos when he was in the 6th percentile!

When the nurse first was telling us these numbers she said that Max was in the 74th percentile for height.  I said that didn't sound right and perhaps she should check again.  So she looked again and said that it was correct.  I still was skeptical and said that there's no way that he went from the 6th to 74th in 6 months.  When the doctor came in I asked her to look at the numbers again and told her what the nurse said.  She said that the numbers must be wrong because you can look at him and see that he isn't in the 74th percentile.  Yup - when she checked she corrected it to 16th.

But for one small split second I got to enjoy the thought of Max being tall.  :)

Man, where did the little baby go and who is this little boy??

I let Max get a sucker at the Dr's instead of the usual sticker.  He was in heaven and sneakily got the wrapper off while we were driving home.

Max snapped this classy pic of his dad

Video - It's a big deal!  Max finally accomplished a true JUMP with both feet!

Enjoying the pool

We went to another FC Dallas game.  Max kept saying he didn't want to go to the soccer game (which he has never said!) and as we got closer he refused to walk and we had to carry him.  He kept talking about not wanting to see the fireworks.  He clearly was remembering the 4th of July.  It was a night game so it was past his bed time and he was not too happy.  The boy behind us had a loud horn and blew it once which freaked Max out and after that he had no interest in the game.  He only wanted to cuddle with his daddy. :(

He ended up falling asleep but would jolt awake each time the crowd got loud.  Peter made us leave at halftime.

We went out for breakfast.  Max's favorite part was the pancakes, bacon, and orange juice.  This kid can pack away the orange juice!  (We always dilute it with water because he drinks it so fast - he doesn't need all that extra sugar hitting at once!)

Still a daddy's boy

Max @ swimming lessons

He got a ribbon for passing off his monkey walks

He thought it was pretty cool

Silly kids

The best way to spend the evening - launching into the pool!

Sometimes these pool parties are unplanned and Max sneakily ends up getting wet so his swimwear can be non-traditional.  :)

Racing dad to the pool

We hit up a Doughnut shop for the rare treat of fresh doughnuts and chocolate milk.  Max was in heaven with the chocolate milk but didn't go crazy for the doughnuts.

He doesn't want to touch anything once his hands get messy.

Then we went to watch our next door neighbor's son compete in a soccer tournament.  It was stupid hot outside but we had fun.  Max really got into the game and was giving his commentary throughout the game... "Ohhhhhhh"..."Kick it!"...."Run"...."Go white go"..."He fell down"..."He hit it with his head"...It was pretty cute and I don't think anyone around us was too annoyed with the constant commenting.  :)  He listened to the parents cheering and would also add in cheers using the boys' names once he heard the parents do it.  The boy loves his soccer (even though their was that weird thing with him not wanting to go to the FC Dallas game).

Busting a move to some music

Max at 2 years old
  • His second molars have all broken through which means we are getting more drool again
    • We have to remind him "Don't forget to swallow" when we see that drool ready to come out and that usually kicks him out of automatic and he will swallow.  Or, if he did drool and we say that then he wipes his mouth.
  • "I do it" is heard a lot out of Max's mouth
  • He cries immediately if he doesn't get his way lately
  • He is great about shutting down the iPad and phone if we give him warnings first - like "one more minute and then it's time to turn it off" and then once we tell him it's time to turn it off, he does
  • He is much better with knowing his colors but yellow is still the default answer
  • He calls Hayden "Hayden Cruz"
  • He calls his dad "Peter" more than he calls him "daddy"
  • At night he gets to play with the iPad for a few minutes if he lets us brush his teeth without hassle.  Then once it's time to turn off the iPad, he picks out the books he wants to read before it's cuddle time and bed time.
  • He has a fantastic memory - I'm shocked by things that he remembers
  • He doesn't have much of an appetite for food but always wants milk

Rare update about Peter and Kallie (not Max)
Peter started a new job at a company called South and Western.  It is an insurance company and he is a programmer for them.  It is an IT department of about 4 people plus it's a smaller, privately owned company.  The company he used to work for, Masterlink, was bought by another company called Ivie and while Peter stuck there for awhile it became evident that the direction they were wanting to go with the Masterlink group wasn't eventually going to be a good fit for Peter so started looking for another job and found this new position.  I think it's good for him to do something new!

I will also be starting a new job next week.  I received a promotion at CROSSMARK to Division Manager for our Convenience Solutions Dedicated Team.  I am really excited about the opportunity - this is the position that I have worked towards for the last 8 years since really starting my career and it's a big team that is experiencing a lot of growth.

It will be interesting as we both embark on these new journeys!
