Halloween Part II - Trick or Treating

We were excited to go trick-or-treating in our own neighborhood.  Although, to be clear, we didn't exactly go in our neighborhood since there are so few homes completed, few sidewalks, and lots of construction.  So instead we walked a few streets over to the neighborhood next to us that is part of our HOA.  We met lots of nice people, it was an extremely friendly place.  Hopefully that spirit seeps over into our neighborhood too.

There was no one left at our house to hand out candy so we put some candy in a bowl and left it on the porch. (Seriously, how do people go with their kids AND have someone at home to pass out candy?)  All of our few neighbors must have had the same approach that we did and went to another part of the neighborhood because by the time we got home it looked like maybe 2 pieces had been taken.  Peter made me buy 2 BIG bags of candy at Costco since this was our first year living in a real neighborhood where we would get trick-or-treaters.  And of course we had opened both bags and couldn't return one.  I try not to keep tons of snacks and candy in the house because it's easier to eat them when they are available.  Next year I figure we'll have TONS of trick-or-treaters.

My little lion ready to go (that's a toy mouse in his hand).  I thought a "lion" would be a fitting costume since for awhile there he growled all the time.

Our first stop - Our awesome neighbors Maryann and Chris.  (Did I mention that it's common for people to sit outside and hand out candy?  That NEVER happened in Utah!)  They were so sweet and made a special trick-or-treat bag for Max that had animal crackers and goldfish rather than give Max candy that he couldn't have.  Isn't that so thoughtful?!?!

Enjoying the night so far...

I mean, seriously?  Isn't this kid cute?!

Max didn't go up to all the houses.  At the beginning he was happy to sit in the stroller and watch everyone else.

Showing off the cute feet of his costume.

Starting to get tired

And the irritation starts to set in...which means he wasn't happy to stay in the stroller anymore.

The kids have escaped the strollers.

We let Max walk up to a few houses.  He was hilarious!
First off, the costume was much to long for him since he's such a shorty.  So his little paws dragged behind him.  Then, he was truly a cowardly lion.  He would walk so bravely up to the door and the second someone came to open the door, he'd turn right around and walk right back.  He certainly wasn't going to stay up there and try and get some candy.  Cracked me up.

Max bravely walking up

And walking right back again!

Video - Here you can watch him in action.  :)  Happy Halloween

It was a lot of fun.  It will be even better next year when we can hit the streets right here and maybe Max will go get some candy so we have more candy to raid as his parents.  :)  (I should have given Peter some requests/guidelines when he took Max up and they let Peter choose what to take!  I would have told him that if it was chewy or hard candy, always stick to the red and pink colors and avoid tootsie rolls when at all possible!)

  2. What cool parents to dress up! Rob and I never dress up -- maybe if we had cool costumes we would. Maybe. Max looks adorable. Robby was a lion when he was that age. Btw, in AZ, everyone sits outside. It's too darn cold here!
